Pulsed dye laser lithotripsy for ureteric calculi.
نویسنده
چکیده
Laser has proven to be an effective and safe method of treating ureteral stones. When the electromagnetic energy of a laser pulse is selectively absorbed by stone, a plasma fonns at the surface. This plasma, which is composed of ions and electrons, continues to absorb laser energy reaching very high pressure and generating a shock wave that fragment the stone. The degree of stone fragmentation is directly related to the composition and crystal lattice structure of the calculus. The damage to the ureteric wall is negligible.

Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy and intracorporeal lithotripsy for proximal ureteric calculi--a comparative assessment of efficacy and safety.
INTRODUCTION Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the treatment modality of choice of many urologists for proximal ureteric calculi. In this study, we compared the efficacy and safety of ESWL versus ureteroscopy with holmium laser lithotripsy for the treatment of this group of stones. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between May 1999 and October 2000, 50 patients had ESWL and another 51 patien...

Two hundred and fifty patients with 290 stones presenting to the Department of Urology were treated with the Candela MDL 2000 Laser Lithotripter. Overall stone clearance rate was 95%. The more proximal the calculus the lower the success rate. Ninety eight percent of stones in the lower ureter, 95% of mid ureteric and 91% of upper ureteric stones were cleared. The major complication was perforat...

INTRODUCTION To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the holmium:YAG laser in retrograde ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy of ureteric calculi. METHODS Three hundred and twenty-five patients (256 males and 69 females) with mean age of 45 years underwent 328 retrograde ureteroscopic laser lithotripsy as the primary therapy for ureteric calculi using semirigid mini-ureteroscopes and the holmium:YA...

OBJECTIVE To analyse outcomes of holmium laser and pneumatic lithotripsy in treatment of lower ureteric calculus in pediatric patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Prospective study conducted between August 2013 and July 2015. Inclusion criteria were lower ureteric calculus with stone size ≤1.5cms. Exclusion criteria were other than lower ureteric calculus, stone size ≥1.5cms, congenital renal anom...
متن کاملSafety and efficacy of ureteroscopic lithotripsy for stone disease in obese patients: a systematic review of the literature.
OBJECTIVE To look at the role and safety of ureteroscopy for stone management in obese patients. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, PubMed and the Cochrane Library from January 1990 to June 2011 for results of ureteroscopy and stone treatment in obese patients. Inclusion criteria were all English language articles reporting on ureteroscopy in patients with morbid obesity. Data on the outcomes and c...
